Meanwhile, Edith and her group were going in circles. Despite Angus’ pleas, the blonde beauty had been insistent that she was going the right way. Of course, Angus thought, circles in a labyrinth meant an eventual dead-end.

“I tell you now, we are certainly going the wrong way…” he whispered as they continued.

Without looking back, Edith said, “No, Angy, I have a good feeling about this way.” The giant groaned. She had already come up with a pet name for him. The turns down each corridor became tighter and tighter. He looked up in concern at the dimmed blue light.

Skreeeeeeeeeeee

The group stopped as soon as the otherworldly cry reached their ill-prepared ears, but this time, it was accompanied by the sounds of screaming men. Their blood-curdling cries chilled even Angus’ bones, but just as quickly as they had started, the noises abruptly ended.

Angus leaned over and whispered into Edith’s ear once more. “Please… we don’t have much time.”

“It’s a good thing I’m leading us to the exit, then,” Edith said. The giant sulked. She couldn’t be reasoned with.

Then, when they were further into the labyrinth, Edith came to a sudden stop. She looked up at Angus and whispered, “Wait a moment, we are going the wrong way. What was I thinking?” He only shrugged in return.

“Now the men will think that I led them astray. I’ll need you to take the blame on this one. But don’t worry, I’ll make it worth your while, later...” she said, caressing his chest as she walked by. She cleared her throat in front of the group. Angus remained silent. “Alright, everyone, I’m sorry to say that Angus took us in the wrong direction, but don’t worry, I shall lead us out.”

The workers groaned. The black gold had made them more prone to restlessness, and they had certainly grown weary of the maze. Bronrar was making the largest fuss, which was unlike him, Angus thought. If even he was speaking out, then the situation among the rest of the crew must have been dire.
